Design Village is a competition hosted by Cal Poly’s college of Architecture and Environmental Design. The Design Village competition has a long history and has become one of the most anticipated events of the year for the college. True to our “Learn-By-Doing” philosophy, competitors follow the design process all the way from idea generation to realization, finally inhabiting the structures for the weekend to truly put their design skills to the test.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE.
Design Village is one of Cal Poly’s most unique “Learn-By-Doing” experiences. The challenge is simple: design a structure, build it, transport everything by hand to The Architectural Experimental Laboratory, and inhabit the creation for 48 hours. The experience is not only a rite of passage for young architecture students, it creates a vibrant community of creatives who find a home at Cal Poly.
